but she was knitting!

I was riding my bicycle back to my apartment just as any other person would - on the sidewalk, no helmet, and a beer bottle in hand. When the cop passed me, I just tucked that bottle by my side and kept on peddling. He never suspected a thing! However, I was taking a huge guzzle when the second cop passed. I hurried and put the bottle back by my side, but it was too late. He saw me. I kept peddling, even though he had turned around to follow me. His lights weren’t on yet. I peddled harder, faster….almost there. Once I got to my apartment, I jumped off my bike, threw off my shoe, stuffed the beer in my shoe to hide it….
then I woke up.
Not being one to drink, that hasn’t been my only drinking dream recently. I found this one even more funny when I awoke this morning:
My boyfriend’s “dream dad” (because it wasn’t his real dad…I actually never even saw the guy, I just know he wasn’t his real life dad) was building this tall building. I don’t know what it was for, but I do know my boyfriend’s family was living on the top floor and that there was a race between some lady I didn’t know and some guy I did know to be the manager of this building.
That evening, I apparently got really drunk (didn’t see this scene in the dream). I was watching t.v. when I saw a biography of some lady was on. I flipped the channel to it and she was knitting. (That’s my kind of manager!) It seemed she was demonstrating her talent, but then she said it. She said she was weaving! I flipped out at some lady - she would definitely not do as a manager and I needed to let people know. I hurried to my computer and began writing an email about if she can’t tell the difference between knitting and weaving, why would people want her as a manager. I sent it to everyone in my contact list, then went to bed.
The next morning, my boyfriend kept trying to get me to go back to bed. I kept telling him I was fine, but he insisted I was acting a little “slow” and people were noticing my next day drunkenness. Then he showed me the email. We were standing in a group of people as I thumbed through this three page document I wrote. I got the the last page, and in big bold letters staring back at me was the word
drunk!!!!!
And that my friends, was sent to everyone I know (in dreamland of course).
can’t you tell the difference?

I’m sure this has happened to every knitter, crocheter, or anyone who works with yarn. Those that do not just do not get it. How many times have you knitted, crocheted, or whatever in public and someone remarks “oh, look at what that person is doing! They are [insert wrong craft here].” And these people are positive they are correct.
Today, while I was crocheting at work (at the office) a delivery man walked in to talk to our budget lady. On his way out, he looked at me and said “Well look at her! She’s just a - weavin’ away.” I assumed he was talking to me since no one else was around. I looked at him and smiled.
This has become my usual reaction. I’ve learned that those they don’t do, don’t know, won’t know, and won’t try. So, while I’m knitting or crocheting to myself, I’m doing a completely different craft to the oblivious. If you happen to stumble upon this blog and are not a knitter or crocheter, how about you…can you tell the difference?
While we are on the subject of people not knowing, let’s talk about public transportation! I, unfortunately, do not have a car, so I walk, ride my bike, or ride the bus wherever I need to go (I’m expected to be poor as a college student, right?).
Well, today I got on the bus. A few minutes later this girl, who I recognized from a ride before, sat down in front of me on one of those seats that face inside (she did this last time too). And, just as last time..she sat on that seat in front of me and stared at me. I know this because I could see her out of my peripheral vision. I think next time I might give her a stare back.
That wasn’t it though. This is one of the few people that do not know how to reach up and pull the stop
string. When the bus took off from the stop she said “Hey! You goin’ up by the courthouse? I need off at that second stop.” When the bus got near the first stop at the courthouse the girl stood up and hovered over the guy in front of her. I laughed in my head as he gave her that ‘what are you doing all over me look.’ Needless to say, she got off at the first stop, not the 2nd, and never had to lift her hand in the air.
You may have noticed a few changes around here lately. On the sidebar, I updated the picture of me (which I had taken off earlier), added some pictures of items in my etsy store, and placed links to allow you to subscribe in a reader or via email.
Pattern-wise, I have moved Betsy to the etsy store. I will be making Susan available as a free pattern. I also have a dishcloth pattern, which I will add in a week or two. Once my yarn shipment arrives, I will be working on the knitted version of Betsy (which I hope to have available before July 4th) and a sock pattern.
Happy Knitting,
Kate

Life at the yarn store is great. I get so much knitting done during the day. So far, I’ve finished one sock, finished weaving in the ends on another, knitted half of a bag, and bought more yarn! I love digging through patterns with customers, sharing what I want to make and learning what they want to.
Plans for the store are moving along. I just ordered a lot of yarn to dye, along with more dyes! Included in this order is some sock yarn to design a pair of socks I’ve been dreaming about and the knitted version of Betsy.
Last night, I began crocheting the Larger than Life bag. It works up really fast, so I’m almost done with it! Now I just need fabric for the lining. I’m going to learn to sew this weekend!
Happy Knitting,
Kate
